Before And After School Care In Tolland CT

  1. Children are enrolled for a ten-month program (September - June). The school is closed on the following holidays:
    • Labor Day
    • Thanksgiving Day
    • The Friday after Thanksgiving
    • Christmas Day
    • New Year's Day
    • Good Friday
    • Memorial Day
    • The Fourth of July

We close at 2 p.m. on the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

  2. You may also enroll your child for the summer program (July and August) on a weekly basis. (We are closed on July 4th) Summer Camp applications will be distributed in the spring. Each school is closed for one week in August. When the Tolland school is closed, the Ellington school will be open to care for students of both schools, and vice versa. Both schools are then closed the week before our new school-year program begins to allow for teacher curriculum planning and for classroom setup for the beginning of our new school year.
  3. Children will be eligible to enroll in September if they are three or if their third birthday occurs before January 1st. Any other time of the year a child must be three to enroll in our program.
  4. Children must be toilet trained and be able to use the bathroom with little help. Pull-ups are not allowed.

We ask parents of children who stay until closing to arrive by 5:30pm, so the child will not be rushed and the teacher has time to discuss the child's day with the parent.

  8. Notification is required if your child will be picked up by anyone other than those stated on the registration form. Proper notification includes written consent signed by the parent or guardian and presentation of proper identification by the person picking up the child.
  9. No sick child will be allowed to stay (i.e. temperature, rash or conjunctivitis). A sick child will be separated from the other students and allowed to rest on a cot until a parent or other designated adult comes. Before returning to school, a child must have a normal temperature for 24 hours or, in cases of contagious illness, have a doctor's permission.
  10. Proper behavior is expected at all times. We reserve the right to ask you to withdraw your child, if, in our judgment, it is in the best interest of your child and the other children.
  11. Please dress your child in comfortable clothing. Children need to be able to use the bathroom with little or no help; please dress them in clothing that will be easy for them to remove. Drawstrings on clothing are a safety hazard; make sure tops and jackets are free of these. Children play outdoors weather permitting; please dress them appropriately (boots, snowpants, mittens and hats in cold weather).
  12. Lunch is brought from home and should be simple. We do not allow chocolate, or peanuts. If you are providing hot dogs for lunch, they must be cut in slices. We provide milk with lunch, or juice if the child is allergic to milk.
  13. Nutritious snacks are provided. Special birthday snacks are most welcome, if they are simple. You may provide a cake, cupcakes, cookies or some other type of simple snack. No chocolate, please.
  14. For preschool, PreK and kindergarten children, a complete set of extra clothing should be kept at the school in case of spills or toilet accidents and should be changed with the seasons. Please label all clothing and place in a small bag with your child's name on it.
  15. Children staying for rest time are required to bring a SMALL pillow, crib sheet and blanket in a NON-PLASTIC bag with the child's name on it. Bedding will be sent home at the end of each week for laundering.
